Divan Beds/Bases

Step 1: Packaging

  • Remove the packaging and take special care not to damage the bed in any way
  • Turn the bed upside down and place the feet/castors into the holes at each corner
  • Use a hammer to gently knock them into the holes until they click into place (if you have difficulty doing this insert a small screwdriver into the locator hole to clear the blockage).

Step 2: Removing Fabric Drawer Straps

The Fabric Drawer Straps ensure your drawers do not open during transit. They are stapled on the inside of the divan base. To remove them, please follow these instructions carefully:

  • Using a pair of scissors, cut the fabric across the centre to release the drawer
  • To your desired length, cut the remaining fabric so it does not hinder the opening and closing of the drawers

Step 3: Two Part Divan Bases

If your bed base has arrived in two parts, connect them together using the right procedure for your base type as detailed below.

Divan Base With U-Clips

  • After fitting the feet/castors, turn both parts of the divan on their side and bring them together so that the two flat ends meet.
  • Where the ends meet, fit the U-CLIPS so that they clamp around the underside timber edges to hold the two parts firmly together.
  • After fitting the U-CLIPS lower the divan down so that it is right way up ready for the mattress to be placed on top.

 Divan Base With Link Bars

If your Divan Base has arrived in tow parts which connect together in the following way, then TWO LINK BARS and FOUR BOLTS will be included inside.

  • After the Feet/Castors have been inserted (Step 1), turn the two parts of the divan base the correct way up so the two flat ends meet.
  • On each side, close to where the two parts meet, you will find pre-drilled threaded bolt holes. Connect the bases together by passing the bolts through the slots in the link bars and screwing them by hand into the threaded holes.
  • After checking that the two parts of the base are firmly together, tighten the links bars into position.

Ottoman Divan Base

As the Ottoman Base is a heavy product, it is recommended to have a partner in helping assemble the Ottoman Divan Base using the following instructions

  • After the Feet/Castors have been inserted (Step 1), turn the two parts of the divan base the correct way up so the two flat ends meet.
  • Insert the short bolts provided and tighten to create a snug fit.
  • Now click the gas lift into place - this is easier to do with the lid fully open.
  • Link the two lids together using the bolt provided.
  • To attach your headboard first pierce the material at the locator bolts. Place the headboard up to the base, remembering to use the spacer between the headboard and base. Insert the long bolts and tighten.
  • Place your mattress on the Ottoman whilst it is in the closed position.
  • The unit is designed to operate with a mattress in place. Initially the gas struts may feel stiff when opening and closing the Ottoman; this is perfectly normal and movement will become easier after operating the unit several times.

Step 4: Attaching a Headboard to a Divan Base

  • The two wooden struts are attached to the back of the headboard by a single screw in each. Loosen the two screws and rotate the struts so they are vertical.
  • With the two extra screws supplied fasten the struts in position. Note that there are four holes in each strut to allow two height positions of the headboard.
  • The headboard can now be fastened to the divan with the large headed screws supplied by the bed manufacturer.
  • The height of the headboard can be adjusted by moving it up or down on the slots. Tighten the screws to the desired position.

As we offer different types of mattresses, it is essential to use the correct mattress designed for different bases. You have the choice of using any mattress for any base but here some points we recommend you on reading.

  • Use a mattress on a base for which it is designed for. The best base for a mattress is a Divan Base
  • If you have a slatted base, it is recommended to have 63mm/2.5" of spacing between the slats in order to avoid damage to the mattress.
  • Do not use a solid plywood or hardwood base or place these materials under the mattress as condensation may build up through lack of ventilation, causing mould or deterioration on the underside of the mattress.
  • To ensure longevity and quality, we recommend using the correct base for each mattress.

Airing a New Mattress

  • Once you have received your mattress and removed the polythene, it is essential you allow the mattress to "breathe" for four hours in order for the moisture to evaporate - which may have been trapped by the packaging.
  • If you have purchased a new Divan Bed then a "newness" aroma will be present, or if your mattress contains memory foam then a slight "chemical" smell will also be present. This is absolutely normal and will fade away after airing.

Maintaining Your Bed

  • It is recommended that a double-sided mattress is turned over regularly. This is because it enables even settlement of the fillings and aid longevity of the mattress. We recommend you turn a double-sided mattress once every week for the first 3 months upon purchase and then monthly thereafter.
  • After consistent use of the mattress, a shallow impression in the surface of the mattress will be created by your body. This again is absolutely normal as it is due to the settlement of the fillings. To minimise this, consistently turn the mattress onto the other side.
  • To ensure your mattress stays odour free and fresh, remove the sheets and covers regularly to allow air to enter the mattress. Enabling air circulation through the fabric and fillings.
  • We recommend using a mattress protector to prevent any accidental damage to the mattress, guard against any stains or dirt, wear and tear and help keep the mattress looking clean and new.

  • Prevent from using chemicals or detergent cleaners on the mattress in the case of a spillage or other reasons, we recommend using a weak solution of soap and water onto the affected area and avoid over wetting.
  • Prevent distorting the springs of the mattress by NOT sitting on the edges for long periods of time.
  • Prevent children and small ones from jumping or standing on the bed, as this can cause damage to both the bed and mattress.
  • Prevent bending, folding and rolling your mattress, as this can cause severe damage to the fillings, internal spring unit and the wire frame.
  • Prevent placing any heavy objects on the mattress. The mattresses are designed to support only body-weight, evenly distributed across the surface.
  • Prevent damaging the fillings by using a soft brush instead of a vacuum to remove any dust or fluff.
  • Prevent moving the bed by the headboard. This can cause serious damage to both the headboard and base.
